Let us explain a little more about what AV over IP means…..
What is AV over IP?
AV over IP stands for ‘Audio-Visual over Internet Protocol’. This really means the transmission of audio or visual data through a network such as LAN, WAN or over the internet. AV over IP solutions allow the transmission of low latency, full high definition quality content that removes a lot of the tech difficulties associated with distance, image quality, scalability etc. The costs involved tend to be lower with using traditional matrix switcher workflows which is an added benefit.
The vast majority of AV over IP products can be very easily integrated into an existing network without the need for a new cabling system. AV over IP provides a hassle-free and cost-effective solution when upgrading your system.
So, what has 2018 in store for AV over IP?
AV over IP – The Year Ahead
Whilst AV over IP is still in the early stages more businesses have been adopting the technology in 2017 and that trend is expected to continue and grow steadily over the coming months as companies reap the rewards. The lower costs involved mean that advanced AV solutions are becoming more accessible to smaller companies, so they are able to compete with the larger players in the market. So far there’s been very positive feedback from companies using the technology and this is creating a buzz in the industry.
Keeping your systems up to date will be very important to be in a position to tackle the large increase in data transferral we are going to see. A recent report, Cisco Visual Networking Index, revealed some very interesting statistics:
- By 2021, more than 1 million minutes of video will cross the global IP network per second.
- Usage of live streamed internet video will increase fifteen times up to 2021.
- Internet video to TV increased by 50 percent in 2016 and will continue to grow at a lightning fast pace.
- Traffic on consumer video-on-demand platforms, will almost double by 2021, equating to approximately seven billion DVDs per month.
